Your Support is Vital for Lopez Center!
Dear Friends,

When fishermen can’t go out to sea, they do more than wait out the storm. They take care of their boats and their nets.

Weathered in by Covid restrictions through the beginning of last year, Lopez Center continued its focus on infrastructure. A 24kw generator was installed for backup power during outages and for emergency response. After 15 years the parking lot was regraded and graveled. The original Main Hall propane heating system was replaced with efficient electric Heat Pumps that provide both heating and air conditioning. Lopez Center for Community and the Arts is now more durable, more flexible, more functional and beautiful.

As restrictions eased, Islanders enthusiastically reclaimed Lopez Center for entertainment and community building. Indoor and outdoor events returned: dancing to Abbey Road and Alpha Ya Ya Diallo; the Lopez Uncovered Music Festival; the Lamb, Goat and Wool Festival; Library Book Sale; High School Graduation potluck; Lopez Artist Guild Studio Tour Preview; Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival concert; weddings and Lopez Island Family Resource Center Summer Social. Quinceañeras and other cultural celebrations increased. It seemed more people than ever gathered at the Pavilion, Skate Park and Farmers Market, and enjoyed the abundant gardens of Fertile Ground and reinvigorated open spaces of Sally’s Garden.

Lopez Center for Community and the Arts serves this Island as a place of celebration and as a resource during an emergency. We remain determined to keep the Center beautiful, healthy and strong, ready for whatever storms may come. Please help us do so by making a year-end donation at this time.
