Terri moved to approve November Board meeting minutes, Sarah, second it, all approved

Introduction of New Members
Welcome to new Board members: Rich Youde, Raiti Waerness and Bob Sundquist. Bob will have a one year term. Terri moved to approve new members, Barbara S, seconded, all approved.
Grant Presentation
Joyce Mork O’Brien, Grant Writer, spoke to the Board about writing grants for the Center.
Rate would be $50/hr. Joyce’s resume handed out, also examples of her grant writing.
She could do a general template of a ‘Letter of Inquiry’ in approximately five hours. (Joyce or a Board member could later ‘plug’ in information for different foundations.
Joyce has a list of possible foundations we could approach for grants.)
Lopez Library has a “Foundation Search Engine” (search for
Grants packets include the following:
Soundness and history of Center, By-laws, Annual Report, financial assistance by Board, proof of a working Board, audit information, endowment.
Grant information include: identify need, be focus, talk about the Center, show budget (budget sheets should balance, no deficit).
Sarah moved to go ahead with more researching for grant writing, Lexi seconded it.
Discussion followed:
1) Yes we would like to use Joyce.
2) Board
needs to work on goals for what we would request. (For example, Capital
equipment, general operating grants, grants regarding
Board approved going ahead to get more information about grant writing. Terri was very interested.

Bob handed out December 2011 ‘Profit and Loss’ and ‘Balance Sheet’ for LCCA. Center in deficit approximately $20,000 for 2011.

“Free Wednesday classes…” remain free.
Tour de Lopez ends at Center, April 28th, Rat City Brass (RCB) will perform at Center on April 27th, Jeffrey Broussard’s concert on March 25th. Janet asked for additional support from the Board for the concerts.
Discussion about Program Committee (PC).
We need more volunteers for PC and volunteers in general. Barb F will mail out latest volunteer list. Board members will add names to list.
General
Barb F and Barbara C are working on a second Friends’ list. Mailing will be sometime after February.
