Following both my Native American and Buddhist spiritual teachings, I seek to offer my music in service of others and bring people together to build community. In a time of climate crisis, wars, and political polarization, my music serves as a connecting and unifying force. In this way I am serving my artistic vision; contributing to the healing of myself, my communities, and our society, one song at a time.
Music has been part of my being since I was in my mother's womb. I grew up listening to my parents sing an play guitar at home and in church. They not only gave me the gift of music, but taught me how songs can be spiritually expressive.
Inspired by my Native American heritage and teachings, I understand music as a common language that connects us all. I use my music to help heal the wounds created by generations of colonization and to build unity and belonging that brings together diverse and intergenerational audiences.
I have been a student of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh since 2004, and in 2021 was ordained a Dharma teacher in his tradition. Through his Buddhist teachings, I have learned that if I pay attention with mindfulness to my breath and to the wonders of life, I can tune in to my creative voice and write songs that water seeds of peace, healing, and transformation in myself, in others, and in the collective consciousness.
